Research and teaching
My research examines how migration and forced displacement are depicted in documentary and visual culture, with a focus on border crossings into Europe and Britain across the Mediterranean and the English Channel. Combining close film analysis, participatory filmmaking and reflexive enquiry, I ask questions of positionality, authorship and the conditions that enable or constrain migrant-led filmmaking.
Research areas: media representations of migration · forced displacement · documentary ethics · participatory filmmaking · arts-based and visual methods · oral history · border representation · practice-based research
